Be the change you wish to see.
First Giving: February 26, 2019
Our First Giving Event Tuesday, February 26th was an enormous success from start to finish. From set up to tear down, our members worked as a team to welcome new faces, sell gear, count votes, make connections and affect change. Three incredible organizations were represented--Family Promise of Summit County, Gigi's Playhouse of Canton and the International Institute of Akron.
We learned that there are over 239 homeless families in Summit County with young children awaiting shelter and that the best way to heal a family is to keep them together (furry friends and all). We learned how a group of mothers saw a need, banded together and are about to open a space that will both support and celebrate their children. We learned that after 90 days of entering this country, federal funding ceases and countless professionals offer essential services to new Americans for free.
Because of the power of our new community, we were able to donate $17,000 to Family Promise. Family Promise will use our donation to triple their current capacity to serve homeless families in Summit County by opening Glendora House in West Akron later this year. This community shelter home will mitigate additional trauma by keeping families together and keeping children in their current schools while Family Promise provides additional support through programming and counsel.
While the most challenging portion of the evening was selecting one organization out of the incredible three, there are still ways to give back! Click here to learn more.
Second Giving: September 17th, 2019
We couldn’t be more heartened by your support, and more excited by our $30,000 gift to Edna House. What an honor to hear about their mission to support women on their journey toward sobriety. Because of our gift, their facility will undergo a much-needed bathroom renovation, expanding the three showers that currently serve over 47 women. AxessPointe Community Health Center, with their vision of access to fresh, healthy food and personal care items and The Highlands Shelter Care, embracing young women during one of the most transformative times in their lives as expectant and new mothers, also made a lasting impression on our hearts.
A year ago, 100 Women Strong OHIO was just a dream in the minds of a few women who wanted to make a difference, and believed in the power of current and future friends to affect change now...and set an example for future generations. As of last night, we are now more than 250 diverse women strong, and we can’t wait to keep growing, in ranks and in impact.
There is so much need in our own backyard. We heard it last night and we will continue, as a community of women, to better understand organizations with whom we can engage and have impact. We are so proud of you and can’t wait to continue making a difference together. Alone women are strong, but together we are stronger.
