First Giving: May 18, 2021

Any night of friendship and philanthropy is meaningful, but there was something especially significant about our event at Highfields. After a year that challenged everyone in so many ways, joining together in a spirit of gratitude and giving seemed -- appropriate to our natural setting for the night -- incredibly grounding. We even had a surprise visit by a fawn, who according to legend, symbolizes connectivity. We felt incredibly connected!

During the event, we heard from three amazing organizations who reminded us that we don’t have to look very far beyond our pretty backyard to find issues and needs that can be hard to face. It was thrilling to spread our $30,000 donation across three finalist organizations, with Shelter Care/Street Outreach Services receiving the lead gift of $20,000, based on our votes. Street Outreach Services assists at-risk and homeless young adults ages 16-24 through street-based outreach and the operation of a drop-in center in Cuyahoga Falls. Finalists Bulldog Bags and Forget-Me-Not Baskets also gave compelling overviews of their organizations and were awarded $5,000 each.
